Petya Stavreva,

Praised by critics for her "ultra-sensitive and highly refined pianism" and described in  her collaborative performances partners as  having an “extraordinary ability to place the sound of the piano exactly where the soloist needs it to be,”  Pianist Petya Stavreva is not only an outstanding concert artist  but also a highly trained music educator, earning her Doctorate of Music Arts from Western University, and her  MA in piano performance from the University of Texas,  studies at the Glen Gould School, and an appointment as artist in residence at the Banff Centre. with full scholarship support.  Her doctoral research was focused on the relationship between Rachmaninov’s first piano sonata and Goethe’s Faust. 

 

Petya is currently based in Toronto and maintains an independent teaching studio while pursing an active performance career.  Her students continuously succeed in festivals and competitions  and  she is much in demand  as an Ontario Music Festival Association adjudicator in the GTA and across the province. 

 

Petya's competitive  achievements include winning   numerous competitions in Canada and Europe such as the international competition “Franz Schubert” in Rousse, international competition “Music and Earth” in Sofia, among many others. A concerto soloist  with the Toronto Sinfonietta Orchestra her solo career includes appearances across Canada and in Europe and the USA.  Partnered with pianist Todd Yaniw she has formed  Duo Avante¸ a new piano duo ensemble with a full upcoming  season of performances that  includes   a recording project and live  performances in Toronto, Kitchener, Mississauga and Caledon.
