“Borodin at the Brewery” with THE MADOC QUARTET – Sunday, September 14
SUNDAY, September 14, 1 pm
555 Brewing Co, 124 Main St, Picton
ADMISSION FREE, Donations welcome
Alexander Borodin liked his brew. He was a chemist, a doctor. Oh yes – and one of the most popular and influential composers of the 19th Century. Anybody remember Kismet? The musical? Kismet came out in the 1950’s. Borodin was long gone by then, but his tunes were memorable, and stealable! The entire musical is based on his themes, most notably the songs “Baubles, Bangles and Beads” and “This Is My Beloved” from his second string quartet. Maybe you don’t recognize those titles, but no worries. Join the MADOC QUARTET for a brew and a round of Borodin, Sunday Sept 14 at 555 Brewing Co. 555 is a delightful craft brewery right on the main street of Picton. They also do a pretty marvellous gourmet wood-fired pizza. You really don’t want to miss this one: the musicians of MQ are playing Borodin’s String Quartet No 2. They will be sure to point out the Kismet tunes before they play the whole quartet, along with some other points of interest to look out for along the way. MQ musicians love to talk about the music, almost as much as they love playing. So, stick around, enjoy a brew, order a pizza. Come face to face with Chamber Music as it was meant to be heard – up close, personal, with friends playing for friends. Oh – did I mention? It is said this work was an anniversary gift. Borodin wrote it for his wife, on their 20th. Isn’t that lovely? Join us. Sept 14, 1 pm at 555 Brewing Co. in Picton. Admission is free. Donations welcome.
